High Confidence in Property Investment
Confidence in real estate as an investment vehicle is high this year, particularly from institutional investors.
Not Just a Top Sportsperson
They might be at the top of their profession and command the highest viewing ratings and biggest crowds when they go out there and set new world records, but Britain's top sports personalities also turn out to be pretty shrewd when it comes to property investment.
According to the latest bi-monthly issue of Homes Overseas magazine, "few professions have embraced property investment as whole-heartedly as British sports stars". Major Players, the lead article in the June/July issue, showcases property investment by some of Britain's top sporting celebrities and highlights "the hot spots" where the stars have chosen to place their hard-earned winnings. The hot-spot short list includes Brazil at the low-entry end and Portugal and Turks & Caicos at the opposite extreme of the price spectrum.
Major Players claims that while sporting professionals "aren't short of a few quid", the short-lived nature of their sporting careers means that "planning for the future is paramount." And one of the best ways of planning for this future is investment in property. Sportspeople investing in their future and quoted in the article include middleweight champion Joe Calzaghe, footballer Rio Ferdinand, Britain's top cyclist, Sir Chris Hoy and golfer Padraig Harrington.
Chris, who recently bought in Obelisk's flagship development in Brazil, Laguna Beach, is quoted in the article as saying that he is "seeking good investment opportunities". According to Chris, Brazil is "one of the world's fastest growing emerging markets and the investment potential is incredible."
Laguna Beach boasts an enviable location on the ocean front - panoramic beach and sea views are a given in the properties - and its luxury finishings and amenities guarantee its appeal to the affluent Brazilian holiday market. With low entry prices, Laguna Beach undoubtedly offers "incredible investment potential".
Top golfer, Padraig Harrington, shares Chris' insight into good property investment opportunities. The three-time Major winner says he enjoys "the security of property" and points out that it is a "great long-term investment." A view that is also shared by Joe Calzaghe who believes property will financially safeguard his future.
When it comes to property investment, Britain's sporting heroes certainly know what they are talking about. For those of us lesser mortals with fewer skills with a ball or bike, property investment in a carefully chosen spot could bring an added bonus. You could well discover that one of those lounging by the pool is a triple Olympic gold medallist and investment opportunities do not come much better than that.
